Abstract

Justification: Training in Clinical Psychology and Psychiatry requires educational strategies that integrate theoretical knowledge, clinical observation, and diagnostic reasoning. The CAPA Clinical Guide provides a systematic framework for contextualizing clinical cases, conducting psychopathological analysis, and applying clinical knowledge. Objective: To analyze the application of the CAPA Clinical Guide to a case of pathological jealousy in a Gesell observation room as an educational innovation strategy. Methodology: A descriptive, mixed-methods clinical case study was conducted. A simulated case of pathological jealousy was enacted through role-play, observed in a Gesell observation room, and analyzed using the ten phases of the CAPA framework. The DSM-5-TR, ICD-11, PANSS, PID-5, and expert clinical judgment were integrated through methodological triangulation. Results: The analysis identified a clinical presentation consistent with delusional disorder, jealous type, characterized by persistent beliefs of infidelity and relatively preserved overall functioning. CAPA facilitated the systematic organization of clinical reasoning, etiopathogenic formulation, and differential diagnosis. Integrating CAPA with the Gesell observation room promoted active learning, critical thinking, interdisciplinary integration, and the development of clinical competencies. However, generalizability is limited because the study was based on a single educational case. Conclusion: CAPA represents a promising educational tool for strengthening clinical reasoning, psychopathological assessment, and therapeutic decision-making in Clinical Psychology and Psychiatry training.
