Justification: Reading comprehension is an essential competence for learning and for active participation in different educational contexts. However, a significant percentage of basic education students experience difficulties in adequately understanding texts. Therefore, innovative pedagogical strategies are required to promote the development of reading comprehension in a meaningful and sustained manner. Objective: Therefore, the study aimed to strengthen the reading comprehension of students in lower secondary education through the implementation of digital gamification strategies. Methodology: The study was conducted using a mixed-methods approach with an action-research design. Thirty-two students participated, evaluated through pre-test and post-test reading comprehension assessments. Results: Improvements were observed across all levels of reading comprehension, with the most notable gains inferential and critical levels. Analysis of the field diary revealed increased motivation, active participation, use of comprehension strategies, and progressive development of critical reflection and reasoning. Conclusion: Digital gamification positively impacts students’ reading comprehension, contributing to the development of complex cognitive skills and fostering active, engaging, and collaborative learning.
